Our Art Work Statement
“The reason we create works of art using ceramics, Japanese paper and cutting-edge technology as media”
Pottery can be said to be the first form of human creativity, emerging when humans evolved from pre-stone age manufacturing methods such as chipping stones, hollowing out wood and painting on caves, to a time when people began to create things themselves.
Paper was also an innovative invention that allowed people to communicate their thoughts and ideas to a wide audience. Japanese paper evolved from techniques introduced from China, and the Japanese refined these techniques to create a paper that was both high quality and durable.
Now, with the development of digital technology, humans are inventing innovative new technologies one after another. With the advent of the internet, we have entered an age where anyone can connect and share information without effort, but on the other hand, the ease with which people can be deceived by fake news and other such things is also a weakness of this new technology.
The wood used to fire the pottery is taken from the nearby forest, where trees are thinned out. The forest is prepared so that light can enter, and new buds sprout, allowing the forest to regenerate.
We grow the raw materials for our paper ourselves. We grow seeds and, each year, while making small improvements to the way we grow them, we create new raw materials.
New technologies such as digital, block chain, AI and quantum computing are unknown media that are essential for creating the world of the future, and their development is expanding beyond human knowledge.
We are creating works through trial and error, facing new technologies of the present with the same sincerity as the media of ceramics and paper built by our predecessors.
The intention of the works we create is to provoke a new vision of the future in the consciousness of the viewer.
